• Pavement ants are a small, dark brown in color and very common throughout all New York City boroughs.  
• They typically nest under stones and other objects in pavement. Pavement ants will eat almost anything including fruits, vegetables, even other insects.
• Pavement ants are known to be aggressive when defending their nests and can bite if disturbed. They are also known to climb buildings and walls in search of food.  They are often found in colonies containing up to 10,000 ants.

Like New Yorkers, pharaoh ants are widespread and have a tough-to-control reputation. Though relatively tiny, pharaoh ants can cause serious headaches for homeowners, and especially for restaurants, hospitals & schools, making them quite an annoying and potentially dangerous pest.

For example, pharaoh ants can potentially spread up to 12 different diseases. They pose a serious challenge wherever food is handled. These ants feed on sugary items but they prefer greasy/fatty meats for their meals.

Pharaoh ants are pale to reddish brown in color, about 1/16 inch (1-2 mm) long. They're tiny and hard to see, and are easily confused with thief ant. They will nest indoors and trail near food and water.
